Bill Dutton will be giving a keynote at this conference on “Emerging Media: Connection, Innovation & Transformation”, hosted by the School of New Media, Peking University. He will be reporting on his study of the role of search in shaping public opinion. He argues: “Is the Internet undermining democracy with fake news, echo chambers, and filter bubbles? Our study of search and politics in seven nations – the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Spain – finds that these concerns to be overstated.”

The report on which his talk will be based is available online at: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2960697
