Johannes M. Bauer

Quello Center Director

Johannes M. Bauer was appointed as the Quello Chair for Media and Information Policy and the Director of the Quello Center in August 2018. From September 2023 through December 2024, he was on leave from MSU to serve as the Chief Economist in the Office of Economics and Analytics (OEA) of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC. Much of his research deals with policy issues that are at the center of U.S. and global debates, such as the governance of emerging technologies such as AI, broadband policy, innovation in the digital economy, and measures to increase digital equity and inclusion. He enjoys working with practitioners from the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.
