Lecturer, Department of Computer Science at Yale University
Inyoung Shin has a PhD in communication from Rutgers University and is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Yale University. Her research examines how new communication technology transforms the ways in which an individual is informed about various social entities, including other people, neighborhoods, communities, organizations, and politics—which in turn creates both possibilities for and constraints on that individual’s social and civic behaviors. Since joining Yale’s Department of Computer Science in 2021, her interests have further extended to integrating social scientific perspectives into the area of computer science. As a lecturer, she is currently teaching graduate students in computer science and other relevant STEM fields how to consider and evaluate the societal impacts of their work.
