In collaboration with faculty in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations, the Quello team is crafting a grant proposal that looks at factors impacting ‘Social Media Influencer Literacy’ among youth and adolescents. This study will use an experimental design to look at the degree of acceptance of misinformation based on factors such as socio-economic status, age, parenting style, skill and device use. Moreover, we will examine and explain the role of the digital divide in the acceptance of misinformation propagated by social media influencers to develop parental training workshops and educator intervention strategies. The proposal is being prepared for submission to the Healthy Habits call for proposals by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Nursing Research as well as the National Science Foundation (NSF) Smart and Connected Communities call.
